At Park Health we offer you fast and convenient access to the best professional sexual health advice, screening and treatment.
Sexual health, also medically known as Genito-urinary Medicine (GUM) needn’t be a matter you feel embarrassed to talk about. After all, all of our doctors provide a friendly, approachable and reassuring service, dealing with all sorts of sexual health issues every day in a discreet and fully confidential manner.
Our range of services covers sexual health screening, STD and HIV/Aids testing, as well as individual advice on contraception and family planning.
Why have a sexual health screening test?
You may be concerned about a potentially risky sexual incident you have recently had, are worried about some symptoms you’re experiencing, or embarking on a new relationship and need to know your overall sexual health. This is where a sexual health test helps put your mind at rest.
We offer testing for the following STIs:
At Park Health we can test for all STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections). An older – now obsolete – term for these is VD (Venereal Disease).
If you’ve had unprotected sex recently or in the past, we strongly advise on having a check-up for STIs. If you are at a continued risk of picking up an STI we recommend regular sexual health screenings.
- Genital herpes
What does the test involve?
Depending on which STIs you’re tested for, tests may include:
- A physical examination of your genitals, anus, mouth and skin
- Taking a urine sample
- Taking a blood sample
- Swabs from your urethra, throat or rectum and for women a swab from your vagina or cervix
- For women: an internal examination
What happens next?
Many STIs can be treated via a simple course of drugs. If an STI is detected one of our doctors will advise commencing immediate treatment.
"What else can I say."
HIV and Hepatitis testing
We can test for HIV including conducting rapid tests that give results in about 30 minutes. For people whose results are found to be HIV+, we are able to offer professional counselling.
If there’s a chance you may have been exposed to HIV, we can help to prevent the development of HIV through prescribing a medication called PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis).
We also offer Hepatitis B vaccination for individuals who may be at increased sexual risk.
Family planning and contraception
Do you need contraceptive advice and support? We can prescribe many various types of contraception including the emergency morning after pill and offer support for those considering abortion.
If you are thinking about family planning we can advise on the best course of treatment as well as offer pregnancy testing.
Protecting your personal interests
We make it our policy that anybody can use our sexual health clinic, no matter what their age.
Our service is totally discreet. It is also anonymous if you prefer. We provide reassuring help and assistance for individuals who have faced the trauma of sexually assault and where necessary we will make a referral to a specialist or other support services.
